چکیده

A total of 50 patients (male-28, female-22), In diferent stages of chronic renal failure (Mild, CCR 30-50ml/min/1.73mn=17; Moderate, CCR 10 to 29 ml/ min /1.73 m2, n=15and Severe, CCR < 10 ml / min /1.73 m2, n=18) and 23 healthy controls (CCR 60 to 120 ml / min /1.73 m2, male 11, female -12) were studied in the Department of Nephrology BSMMU, Dhaka to see the alteration of divalent ion metabolism in different stages of chronic renal failure. Mean age of the patients were 42.98 ± 14.51 years. The level of serum calcium was significantly lower among the patients of moderate and severe chronic renal failure. Serum inorganic phosphate level was significantly high among the patients of severe chronic renal failure than those of control group. It Is concluded that hypocalcaemia and hyperphosphataemia occur in the chronic renal failure patients and these are more marked in advanced chronic renal failure. TAJ 2003; 16(1): 8-11

ALUMINUM TOXICITY: A REVIEW IN RELATION TO CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE PATIENTS M AINTAINED ON REGULAR HEMODIALYSIS

Aluminum is present in very small amounts in living organisms but abundant in the environment. A growing literature links with the biochemistry of aluminum and also with a series of diseases in chronic renal failure patients on treatment with hemodialysis. The initial description of potential aluminum toxicity in renal failure patients relates to description of dialysis encephalopathy syndr...

Divalent ion metabolism and osteodystrophy in chronic renal failure.

The widespread use of clhronic dialysis and renal homotransplantation, while prolonging the lives of patients with chronic renal failure, have concomitantly resulted in the appearance of severe disorders of calcium and phosphorus metabolism and disabling renal osteodystrophy (retardation of growth and dwarfism, osteitis fibrosa, rickets or osteomalacia and, at times, osteosclerosis). Furthermor...

PHARMA COKINETICS OF RECOMBINANT ERYTHROPOIETIN AND RED CELL METABOLISM IN HAEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS

The pharmacokinetics of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEpo) administered intravenously has been investigated in a group of five patients with chronic renal failure who were dialysis-dependent. The half-life of circulating erythropoietin decreased from 7.9±OA hr (mean ±SO) at the beginning of treatment to 6.2±O.6 hr after 6 weeks and 5A±O.9 hr after 4 months of treatment. In spite of t...

Comparision between effects of bicarbonate and acetate dialysates on spirometry parameters in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis

Introduction: Chronic renal failure causes impairment of all body organs including heart and lungs. Main problem in these patients are pulmonary edema due to increased permeability of capillaries, intravascular and interstitial volume overload, hypertension and heart failure. These changes cause altered physiologic and mechanical function of lungs. The objective of this study is evaluating the ...
